YELLOWSTONE Will End with Season 5, but Matthew McConaughey's Sequel Series Has Been Ordered

Paramount Network’s hit series Yellowstone is officially coming to an end with the upcoming final episodes of Season 5, which are set to start airing in November. But, the story will continue with the previously announced Matthew McConaughey sequel series, as it has been given an official greenlight. That series will debut in December on Paramount Network and Paramount+.

The announcement comes shortly after it was reported that Kevin Costner would not be returning to the series after Season 5. Costner was just more interested in focusing on his epic two-part Western feature film Horizon, which was a big impact on his availability to shoot Yellowstone.

Yellowstone is such a great series, and while it sucks to see it come to an end, that story will continue with the untitled follow-up series. We don’t have any story details, but several characters from Yellowstone will be joining McConaughey in the series. It’s going to be interesting to see how the final episodes of Season 5 set all of that up.

With Taylor Sheridan leading the charge on the series, I have no doubt the story will continue in a strong way. Yeah, it sucks that Costner won’t be a part of it, and they will probably kill him off in some way, but at least the franchise is still going to move forward.

Chris McCarthy, president & CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios said in a statement: “Yellowstone has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits – from 1883 to Tulsa King, and I am confident our Yellowstone sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life.”

David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios added: “The Dutton story continues, picking up where Yellowstone leaves off in another epic tale. We are thrilled to bring this new journey to audiences around the world.”
