WESTWORLD Showrunners Say They Will Reveal The Whole Plot of Season 2 To Protect The Major Spoilers

For those of you who were closely following the first Season of Westworld, then you know those fan communities did a great job predicting what was going to happen in the story, including some of the major plot twists.

To prevent that from happening during Season 2, showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have come up with a safeguard to protect the big secrets of the story and that is pretty much to spoil everything themselves!

Nolan shared the interesting plan during a Reddit AMA explaining that they are looking at creating a video that lays out the entire plot of Season 2, including all of the twists that the story will take. They believe that by doing this, it will give certain fans the opportunity to serve as gatekeepers that will protect the big secrets from the larger fan community. he goes on to say:

"It creates a larger problem for us, though, in terms of the way your guesswork is reported online. ‘Theories’ can actually be spoilers, and the line between the two is confusing. It’s something we’ve been thinking about since last season. The fans of Game of Thrones, for instance, rallied around and protected the secrets of the narrative in part because they already knew those secrets (through season 5).

"We thought about this long and hard, and came to a difficult (and potentially highly controversial) decision. If you guys agree, we’re going to post a video that lays out the plot (and twists and turns) of season 2. Everything. The whole sordid thing. Up front. That way the members of the community here who want the season spoiled for them can watch ahead, and then protect the rest of the community, and help to distinguish between what’s ‘theory’ and what’s spoiler.

"It’s a new age, and a new world in terms of the relationship between the folks making shows and the community watching them. And trust is a big part of that. We’ve made our cast part of this decision, and they’re fully supportive. We’re so excited to be in this with you guys together. So if this post reaches a 1000 upvotes we’ll deliver the goods."

That's a fascinating way of handling the situation. But, part of the fun about watching a series like Westworld is talking about and sharing theories with other fans! Whether or not those theories are right or wrong, it doesn't matter. It's all about the having fun theorizing what could happen! I love that kind of stuff. Having all of that information spilled out in front of me would take all the fun away, and knowing that other fans have that information, would make me want to steer clear of the fan communities because will know what the truth is when I don't want to have the truth pointed out to me. I just want to theorize with everyone else and if a theory turns out to be right... awesome! What's wrong with that?!

However, I do like that Nolan and Joy want to engage with the fan community and try to come up with a way to avoid major spoilers. I just don't think it would work out the way that they think or hope it will.

Nolan said that they would only go through with this if the comment got 1,000 upvotes on Reddit. What do you think about their plan? Do you think they'd actually go through with is this or is it just a big tease? It wouldn't surprise me if they were just messing with the fans. It seems like something they might do for a laugh.

Westworld returns to HBO on April 22.
