There Will Be a THE BOYS Short Film Focusing on Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher

While fans of Amazon’s The Boys patiently wait for the arrival of Season 2, showrunner Eric Kripke has revealed that there will be a short filmThe Boys released between the first and second episode of the second season. That short film will focus on Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher.

There are a lot of questions regarding how the characters will deal with the events at the Season 1 finale. There’s some catching up to do, and In a recent interview with Collider, Kripke said that fans shouldn’t expect to see Butcher until the second episode of Season 2, so the short film that is being released will catch us up with his story.

According to Kripke, the footage used to make the short film are flashback scenes that were cut from the first episode due to pacing issues. They also added some additional footage. The events of the short film will be referenced throughout the season. Kripke went on to explain:

“It doesn’t just mean huge action scenes. It does mean some of those. We have some huge sequences. There are larger sea mammals. There is some bigger stuff for sure. But there is also a lot more intense stuff and scenes that were really difficult for the actors emotionally and require a bit more time. It’s not just the visuals that are epic; I think the emotions are a little more epic this season and that just takes some TLC with the actors.”

In Season 2, the Boys are on the run from the law, hunted by the Supes, and desperately trying to regroup and fight back against Vought. In hiding, Hughie, Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie, and Kimiko try to adjust to a new normal, with Butcher nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Starlight must navigate her place in The Seven as Homelander sets his sights on taking complete control. His power is threatened with the addition of Stormfront, a social-media-savvy new Supe, who has an agenda of her own. On top of that, the Supervillain threat takes center stage and makes waves as Vought seeks to capitalize on the nation’s paranoia.

The Boys is an irreverent take on what happens when superheroes, who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as gods, abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about the supergroup known as “The Seven.”

The cast of the series includes Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hugh Campbell, Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk, Tomer Capon as Frenchie, Karen Fkuhara as Kimiko, Jennifer Esposito as CIA agent Susan L. Rayner, Elisabeth Shue, Erin Moriarty, Antony Starr, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, and Aya Cash as Stormfront.

The series is produced by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen. The Boys Season 2 will premiere on September 4th.
