The next installment of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise is coming to Netflix. The film is coming from Legendary Pictures and producer Fede Alvarez. Netflix picked up the rights to the film from Legendary, so if you were hoping to see the movie in theaters, that’s not gonna happen.

David Blue Garcia directed the horror movie, which has been confirmed to be a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s original 1974 classic and will feature old man Leatherface. The movie will also incorporate practical effects.

This sequel “returns to the roots of the Hooper and Kim Henkel creation that was considered one of the scariest films of its era, even though most of the splatter was implied and not shown.” It’s explained that the film “seeks to pick up where the Hooper and Kim Henkel film initially left off, bringing the most notorious horror franchise back to life in the same bold and provocative manner that it was first introduced to the world.”

The tagline for the film is, “In 1974, the world witnessed one of the most bizarre crimes in the annals of American history. In 2021, the face of madness returns.”

The movie stars Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade), Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U), Jacob Latimore (The Maze Runner), and Moe Dunford (Vikings).

The original movie followed two siblings and three of their friends en route to visit their grandfather’s grave in Texas. On their journey, they end up falling victim to a family of cannibalistic psychopaths and must survive the terrors of Leatherface and his family.

I can’t help but think that the reason Legendary sold the film to Netflix is that they don’t think it’s good enough for people to flock to the movie theaters to watch. What do you think about the movie being sold off to Netflix?
