The Cast of SEINFELD Turned Down the Offer of a Tenth Season Despite the Promise of Multi-Million Dollar Episodes

Seinfeld was and still is one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. It turned the idea of the modern TV show on its head, and though it started out as “the show about nothing,” it ran for nine seasons and gave us plenty to talk about.

While some may argue that the show’s final season was its weakest, NBC was hoping to squeeze just one more set of episodes out of its stars, and the network was willing to pay an insane amount of money to get it.

In a recent write-up from the NYPost, it’s reported that NBC offered the show’s co-creator and star, Jerry Seinfeld, an astounding $5 million an episode to do a 10th season, but the comic — who already earned $1 million an episode in Season 9 and was tremendously wealthy — felt he and the show had gone as far as they could.

Jerry Seinfeld wanted to go out on top, and has always been very honest about his feelings and the integrity of his comedy. Just watch his series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, and you will know he doesn’t mince words. It’s part of his charm.

You can’t begrudge a group of actors for not selling out. I love the show they made, and I appreciate their willingness to dip out right on time.
