Actor Jeffrey Wright (Westworld, What If…?, No Time To Die) is a busy actor who seems to be popping up in most of the projects we are watching lately. His next big role will be the part of James Gordon in next year’s DC film The Batman. While we have seen many films and series based on this particular superhero plenty of times over the years, Wright says the film will give fans a Gotham City unlike any we’ve seen before.

In a recent interview with IndieWire, Wright described Matt Reeves's take on Gotham City, saying it is:

"Unlike Gothams we'd seen before. It was a Gotham we could touch. The way the Batmobile was described, I understood the aesthetic we were going for was something really palpable. If you squint your eyes in some backstreet of New York, you could see it appear."

It will be really interesting to see what he means by that. It sounds like it’s more like the Gotham of Joker, but more modernized, as that city felt more like New York in the ‘70s than any other Gotham felt like a real city we knew. I have loved what I’ve seen so far from the film, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store.

The Batman is a dark, noir-style film that will lean into Batman in his detective mode. Reeves said that it’s going to tell a deep and psychological story. This will be a “year two” story for Batman that acknowledges his origin and how it’s still something that he’s “majorly struggling” with.

There will be a series of murders and crimes that start taking place in Gotham and as Batman investigates those things, they begin to reveal the darkness of Gotham City to him.

The film stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson. Gil Perez-Abraham (Orange is the New Black), Charlie Carver (Teen Wolf), and Max Carver have also been cast in undisclosed roles.

The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on March 4th, 2022.
