Thandie Newton Discusses Her Role in Upcoming HAN SOLO Film

Thandie Newton (Westworld) is talking about her role in the upcoming Star Wars Han Solo spinoff. At this point, she can't talk about much, for legal reasons, but in an interview with Oprah Winfrey she opens up about how she is preparing for her next big role. The interview is part of Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series. She says:

“I just had these ideas of what it would be, you know, and it was completely different to everything I imagined and I’m so thrilled.
To be part of a legacy like ‘Star Wars,’ it’s loved for a reason. I could have been in it for a brief little nothing, and I would have been thrilled and delighted. To be taken seriously, a women of color at 44 years old and be in a dope-a–franchise. It’s when you just let go."

The still untitled film is about a year away from being released in theaters, to the delight of all Star Wars fans there will only be about five months between Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the Han Solo spinoff movie.

The Han Solo movie hits theaters May 25.

Her interview will air in its entirety on Variety’s “Actors on Actors” Season 6, which premieres June 13 on PBS SoCal.
