R.L. Stine Says His FEAR STREET Trilogy Is Still in Development

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything about the film adaptation of R.L. Stine’s Fear Street. But today we have an update from Stine himself saying that the three film projects are still in development at Fox.

The three separate films will each get a theatrical release a month apart from each other. This is an interesting and innovative way of doing things. It will give audience the opportunity to binge watch these films in theaters. I don’t recall a trilogy of films ever being released a month apart from each other before.

Leigh Janiak is heading up the project. She is best known for directing a little indie horror film called Honeymoon. The films will focus on the R.L. Stine series, which is kinda like Goosebumps but for an older audience. They were a bit darker than Goosebumps.

The stories were set in the fictional town of Shadyside, Ohio, and they spanned different times periods in the 1980s and 1990s. Each one centered around a new set of characters. But some of those characters occasionally made appearances in other stories since they are all set in the same universe.

Janiak is leading a team of writers to develop these films, and she is set to direct the first one with Phil Graziadei, which was written by Kyle Killen. The second film is being written by Zak Olkewicz and the third by Silka Luisa.

Are you excited for R.L. Stine’s Fear Street trilogy?
