Review: DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Is Pure Sam Raimi-Style Horror Awesomeness

When Sam Raimi was hired to direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there was one thing that I was hoping to see. I wanted to see a pure Sam Raimi-style Doctor Strange horror movie, and I’m so happy to say that’s exactly what I got! I had an absolute blast watching this movie! It was just so much fun, and it was so great to see Raimi make another awesome comic book movie!

This review is going to be completely spoiler-free, so don’t worry, you won’t find any spoilers here. I’m sure a lot of the other movie websites out there will provide complete, spoiler-filled breakdowns.

There are a lot of theories and speculation about what this Doctor Strange sequel might entail and it’s fun to discuss things that we might get to see, but those things don’t really matter. I was just hoping for another solid Marvel story, but with dark and weird horror vibes and the movie didn’t let me down! In fact, the movie ended up being much darker than I was expecting, which was a pleasant surprise.

Now, if you were hoping for big surprises, don’t worry! The movie is filled with huge surprises that are going to kick you in the face! There are things that happen in this film that I was totally not expecting, and I was in complete shock during certain moments, and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was complete and utter madness!

This is definitely one hell of a crazy-ass journey for Doctor Strange, and it was interesting being introduced to multiple versions of him across the multiverse. Benedict Cumberbatch was once again great as Strange, and he once again takes a young character under his wing with America Chavez, who is played by Xochitl Gomez, and she was great! I wasn’t really familiar with the character prior to learning she was going to be in the movie, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from her, but she played a big role in the movie, and I enjoyed the character! She was a likable character that I enjoyed rooting for.

Benedict Wong’s character Wong also got to see a lot of action in the movie, which was great! We get to see him get into some real action as the Sorcerer Supreme. Then, of course, there’s Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, and she delivers the best performance in the movie! I also thought her story arc was great! That story arc is a continuation of what we saw in WandaVision, and that’s all I’ll say.

Raimi's direction was my favorite aspect of the film, though. I’m a huge fan of Raimi and his work, and his signature directing style is all over this movie, especially in the horror and action sequences! I mean, Marvel let Raimi be Raimi, and it’s that style that made the movie such a blast to watch! If you enjoyed Raimi’s work on the Evil Dead films and the Spider-Man movies, you’re gonna love what he brings to Doctor Strange! I really hope that Raimi gets invited back to direct another Marvel movie! I’d love to see him come back for the next Doctor Strange film!

I can’t wait for all of you to get to see the movie for yourselves to experience the insanity of the multiverse! Stear is clear of social media until you see the movie, because there’s no doubt that people are going to spoil the crap out of it.

Oh! There are two post-credits scenes.
