Nicolas Cage Reportedly in Talks to Play Spider-Man Noir in Live-Action Series

Last year we learned that Sony was developing a live-action Marvel series based on Spider-Man Noir. The project is being developed by The Punisher writer and producer Steve Lightfoot as the co-showrunner and he is joined by Oren Uziel, who is a writer on the project and will serve alongside Lightfoot as co-showrunner.

The Ankler is now reporting that Nicolas Cage “is in serious talks to take on the lead role on the series.” Cage provided the voice of the character in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, and I think it would be so cool if Cage actually did end up playing this character in live-action! This is just a rumor for now, but it’s a rumor I hope ends up being true.

The series will be set in 1930s New York City, and it will follow the adventures of this fan-favorite Spider-Man variant that's ready to take on the criminal underworld in his signature noir style. It was previously reported that the show will be set in its own universe, and the main character will not be Peter Parker.

In this noir-inspired world, in the comics Peter Parker takes on the mantle of Spider-Man, but with a distinctively cool twist. Clad in a trench coat and fedora, Spider-Man Noir fights crime in the shadows of New York City, navigating a landscape filled with corruption and danger. The character's design and narrative draw heavily from the film noir genre, incorporating elements of detective fiction and a morally ambiguous atmosphere. Throughout his adventures, Spider-Man Noir confronts a rogues' gallery of villains.

Spider-Man Noir is one of two series projects in development at Amazon as they are also developing a project for Silk: Spider Society. President of Sony Pictures Television Studios Katherine Pope previously talked about the future of the Spider-Man universe shows and how they are a huge focus for them, saying:

"It's a huge focus certainly for all of us here, and for me in particular. I was already a fan of Angela Kang, so I'm really, really excited to be working with her on Silk. She's just brilliant and a total pro.

"This is also an example of working really closely with Tom Rothman and Sanford Panitch, and the motion picture group, to make sure that we are in lockstep with them and also executing at the same level. They've done such an incredible job with that franchise, so we want to make sure we're executing at that level."

The report also says that there are several other Marvel Spider-Man shows in the works, but we don’t know which other Marvel characters will be featured in the other Amazon projects. The series is being produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
