Marvel Almost Made a WAR MACHINE Movie After IRON MAN 2

When the Marvel Cinematic Universe was still in its infancy and the studio was still trying to figure out what their grand master plan would be. There was a point after Iron Man 2 where they almost made a War Machine movie!

This bit of previously unknown information comes from Black Panther screenwriter Joe Robert Cole. During an interview with Complex, the writer says that he pitched an idea to Kevin Feige and the company and it came close to getting the greenlight before they decided to take things in a different direction. Cole explained:

"At that meeting, they also said they were thinking of doing a War Machine movie. I pitched a concept and won that job to write the script but they decided, based on what Iron Man 3 was going to be, they weren’t going to do War Machine anymore. But they asked if I’d be interested in joining their writer’s program instead."

That obviously seemed to work out well for cole in the end as he ended up writing Black Panther, which is going to be a huge hit.

It would have been pretty cool to see a War Machine movie, and I'm kinda bummed that Marvel Studios didn't go through with it. I'm curious to know what his solo film story would have been. Regardless, I like how the character has been handled in the MCU, and I'm looking forward to seeing him back in action in Avengers: Infinity War.

Would you want to see War Machine solo film?
