Margot Robbie Talks About the Idea of a Sequel to the Smash Hit Movie BARBIE

This summer, director Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie was the smash hit that took the box office by storm. So because fans and critics were so happy with the film, and it brought in so much cash, the studio’s first response was obviously to start talking about a possible sequel. This didn’t seem like a movie that would have a sequel, but nevertheless, as we approach awards season, the stars and creators are going to be asked this question repeatedly, and star Margot Robbie has commented on the sequel question recently, telling AP Entertainment:

"I think we put everything into this one. We didn't build it to be a trilogy or something. It was like Greta put everything into this movie, so I can't imagine what would be next."

She went on to talk about her biggest takeaway from making and releasing the film, saying:

"I'd say the biggest takeaway for me is that original films can still hit huge at the box office. It doesn't have to be a sequel or a prequel or a remake. It can be totally original. It can still be big, given the big budget to do that. And just because there's a female lead doesn't mean it's not going to hit all four quadrants, which is, I think, a misconception that a lot of people still have. So it's really important that Barbie did well. As much as it is nice, it's also really important that it does well so people can also, in the future, have big original ideas and be given the budget to execute them properly."

I love the Barbie movie, and I love what it has done for storytelling. I am happy with it being the only film, unless Gerwig has any other story ideas up her sleeve.
