Jordan Peele Shares Unreleased NOPE Clip Featuring “Gordy’s Home!” Sitcom Opening Credits

The most interesting story told in Jordan Peele’s Nope involved the traumatic past of Steven Yuen‘s character Ricky ‘Jupe’ Park. He witnesses a dark and violent tragedy on the set of a sitcom he starred in as a kid titled “Gordy’s Home!” which was told through flashbacks.

Peele recently shared an unreleased clip that features the fictional sitcom’s opening credits, and it offers more context and insight into Gordy the chimpanzee, and the traumatizing unsettling scene’s past. You can check out that clip below.

In the film in Jupe’s childhood story, a balloon pops while he is shooting a birthday party episode of “Gordy’s Home!” and that pop sends Gordy the chimpanzee into a violent rage where he brutally attacks the actors on the show.

The opening of the sitcom offers a bit more insight into Gordy’s history before entering the entertainment business. The title card is set over an image of a rocket launched into space, which is a nod to Ham the chimpanzee, the first chimp sent to space in 1961.

The flashback scenes in Nope also allude to Gordy's space history, adding subtext to the idea that people and animals can become parts of the machinery only to be abandoned and forgotten.

The story revolving around Jupe and Gordy the chimpanzee was the most interesting part of the movie for me. The focus on that would have made a much better movie. The whole sci-fi UFO element just wasn’t interesting to me. I think I need to see that movie again, though, as I watched it late one night during Comic-Con and I was pretty tired.

What are your thoughts on all this!
