Jared Leto Says of the Possibility of Returning to the Role of The Joker: 'It's Hard to Say No to That Character'
Jared Leto is an Oscar-Winning actor who has played some great roles over the years. One of his lesser-appreciated parts was that of the infamous Batman villain, The Joker, in the 2016 film Suicide Squad. Leto is reprising the role in Zack Snyder’s Justice League recut that is coming out this year, but some have wondered if we would see his take on the character again in another film moving forward.
In a recent interview with the Variety Awards Circuit podcast, Leto said of a possible return:
“It's hard to say no to that character… There are very few characters that you play that have absolutely no rules, you know, that you could just go to town. It's so much fun, that energy. I had a lot of fun with that character.”
Leto’s performance was widely panned, but Suicide Squad director David Ayer has previously said that the version of the Joker we see in that film really doesn’t reflect Leto’s performance, saying, “Jared was pretty mistreated during this. No one has seen his performance. It was ripped out of the movie.” While the fans insisted that Zack Snyder be able to come back and tell his full Justice League story, it’s unlikely that Ayer will be asked to come back and redeem his story as well. Stranger things have happened, but it seems that the studio is banking on director James Gunn’s complete reimagining, The Suicide Squad, to reboot the franchise.
While it doesn’t seem likely that we will see Leto back in the role, he is open to it, so you never know. What would you think of seeing him back as The Joker?
