Jake Gyllenhaal to Star in HBO series adaptation of THE SON With Denis Villeneuve Directing
Jake Gyllenhaal is reteaming with his Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve for a series adaptation of Jo Nesbo’s novel The Son at HBO. Gyllenhaal and Villeneuve will also executive produce the limited series alongside Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, who will also serve as showrunners on the series with Lenore Zion.
The story in the series will be base on the #1 New York Times bestselling novel, which is described as “a tale of vengeance set amid Oslo’s brutal hierarchy of corruption. The story follows Sonny Lofthus, an escaped convict: an opioid addict who can’t recall his past, on the run from the law toward an unknown truth.”
Sources told Deadline that Gyllenhaal and Villeneuve had been looking to reteam and collaborate again ever since making the 2013 film Prisoners, and when Gyllenhaal read The Son, he sent it to the director immediately. Villeneuve read it in one night and let the actor know that he was in. I am a fan of everyone on board the project so far, and I can’t wait to see what they do with it.
