Heath Ledger Planned on Playing The Joker Again After THE DARK KNIGHT
Heath Ledger's Joker will go down as one of the most iconic versions of the character ever. He was just so freakin' great in the role! He brought that character to life in the most terrifying way imaginable and it's hard to think that anyone will be able to top what he did.
It's been ten years since Heath Ledger tragically passed away. He was only 28-years-old and he had such an amazing career ahead of him. Every time I watch a movie with him in it, it still kinda stings that he's gone.
Lots of fans have wondered if Ledger would have reprised his role of The Joker in the third Batman film had he not passed away. Well, after all these years Ledger's sister Kate has revealed that he did plan on playing The Joker again.
During an interview last year with the Australian news outlet news.com.au, Kate Ledger opened up about her brother's death and rejected the theories that the actor was depressed or suffering from his art. She said, “I spoke to him the night before (he died) and we were laughing and joking,” and then she went on to reveal that Ledger's plans to play The Joker again:
“He was so proud of what he had done in Batman. And I know he had plans for another Batman. He loved working with Chris Nolan and Christian Bale and Gary Oldman. He just had the best time ever doing that film. When he came home at Christmas he couldn’t wait to tell us all about it and he was doing the voice and laughing, showing me all the rushes. We had a great time.”
Kate Ledger was promoting the documentary I Am Heath Ledger at the time, which featured Ledger’s friends and family talk about the late actor and his legacy. It also features home video footage that Ledger filmed himself.
I know this interview is a year old, but it has now just been making the rounds online. The Internet does that sometimes.
Up until this point, we never really knew if Christopher Nolan planned on including The Joker in his third Batman film, but this tells us that they were planning on bringing the character back. It would have been interesting to see how that might have played out.
