George R. R. Martin Started to Worry About HBO's GAME OF THRONES After Season 5
HBO’s Game of Thrones series was, for the most part, a great show. But, it started to fall apart leading up to the end, and that last season was a spectacular let down for a lot of fans. Well, it turns out that Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin started to really worry about the epic fantasy series after Season 5.
Martin's representative, Paul Haas, said in James Andrew Miller’s new book, Tinderbox: HBO's Ruthless Pursuit of New Frontiers (via Winter is Coming) that when showrunners and writers Dan Weiss and Dave Benioff stopped following Martin’s story outline, Martin started to get concerned. Haas said:
"George loves Dan and Dave, but after Season 5 he did start to worry about the path they were [going down] because George knows where the story goes. He started saying, 'You're not following my template.' The first 5 seasons stuck to George's roadmap. Then they went off George's roadmap."
I guess Weiss and Benioff just ignored Martin when he expressed his concerns. Maybe they should have actually followed his road map, and maybe the series might have ended in a much better way.
Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire book series is still not finished, but hopefully he will finish it one day so that we can all actually find out how Martin really does intend on closing out this epic story.
Meanwhile, HBO is is moving forward with its spin-off series House of the Dragon, which will premiere sometime in 2022.
