EVIL DEAD Reboot Director Fede Álvarez Shares His Original Unseen Ending For The Film
Evil Dead reboot director Fede Álvarez has released the original unseen ending that he shot for the film. He decided to share the footage in celebration of the film’s nine-year anniversary. He also shared a video featuring some of his personal polaroids that he took while shooting the film.
As you’ll see, this original ending is pretty much the same ending that Sam Raimi’s original Evil Dead film had and it replicates the fate of Bruce Campbell's Ash Williams. I included Raimi’s original ending as well so that you can compare the two.
Raimi had Álvarez change the ending because he thought Jane Levy’s character should live after everything that she went through. There was another ending as well that Álvarez wrote for the film that was never shot. He previously talked about the ending, saying:
“It was written as she levitates for the first time – because you never see levitation in the movie. It was kind of the rules of [our] Evil Dead, to never see anything that tells you right away that you're in a supernatural world. So no one floats [in] Evil Dead. But in the last moment, she will float. Suddenly her body was all tensed up like Exorcist-style, and then we were going to rip her apart like every limb or something like that. She was going to explode into this bomb of blood."
That would have been complete madness! But, it would have been interesting to see. Regardless, the movie was an absolute bloody mess.
The video below came with the following note from Álvarez: "Here it is. This is what was written originally. But Sam Raimi (wisely) pointed out 'after everything she's been through, she deserves to live' so I rewrote it to the actual ending. ([Jane Levy] let out one of her best screams in the movie on this take).” Now you can watch it below!
