Don Cheadle to Play Narrator in Reboot of THE WONDER YEARS at ABC

Don Cheadle has joined the cast of ABC’s reimagining of the classic TV series The Wonder Years. He will play the adult version of the lead character, Dean (Elisha “EJ” Williams), who will narrate the series as he looks back on “the wonder years” of his life growing up in the 1960s and 70s.

Daniel Stern (Home Alone) voiced the narrator role of adult Kevin in the original series, and lent such a humorous perspective. It was the perfect formula for the series, and I think Cheadle has a subtlety and quiet humor that will be perfect for this role.

The series is being written by Saladin Patterson, and directed by original series star Fred Savage, who is producing. The Wonder Years reboot is set in the same era as the original. It looks at how the Williamses, a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, AL, in the turbulent late 1960s made sure it was the Wonder Years for them too.
