Don Cheadle Talks About the Scrapped War Machine Film

With so many movies and characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, some are going to get left behind. James Rhodes, aka Rhodey, aka War Machine, is a character that has typically not been very important in the films. In Avengers: Infinity War, he seemed to get a bit more of a role, but he still wasn’t really center stage. However, it turns out that the character, played by Don Cheadle, almost got his own solo film. Don Cheadle was asked about the project which was being written by Joe Robert Cole and explained:

We kicked it around a bit. There was definitely going to be a lot of tension between his job as a military man and his allegiances to the code that he swore an oath to uphold, versus the changing world. I think they probably would have run afoul of each other a little bit, but I don’t know if he would have been a straight fugitive, or if he would have become decommissioned. But there was definitely going to be some tension between those two worlds.

As a kid I loved War Machine from the old cartoon and so part of me wishes that we had gotten that film. However, I think we have enough films in the Infinity Saga. Maybe War Machine will get his own series on Disney+ though like so many of his comrades. Would you have wanted to see a War Machine film?
