Disney CEO Bob Iger Was "Apoplectic" About Marvel's VFX Issues; SHE-HULK VFX Issues Blamed on "Half-Baked Scripts"

Some new details have surfaced about Marvel Studios’ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and its VFX issues. The report, which comes from Variety, suggests that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is to blame for the problems.

The report reveals that Disney CEO Bob Iger was "apoplectic" about the big widespread VFX issues when he returned to take charge of the company. A month after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was released Victoria Alonso was fired; she oversaw the studio’s physical production, postproduction, VFX and animation.

Sources suggest that Alonso was “a scapegoat and point to the She-Hulk VFX issues as a symptom of a deeper rot — namely a lack of oversight on script development.” Another source who was involved with She-Hulk put the blame on “half-baked scripts” and Kevin Feige. The source said:

“The so-called bad VFX we see was because of half-baked scripts. That is not Victoria. That is Kevin. And even above Kevin. Those issues should be addressed in preproduction. The timeline is not allowing the Marvel executives to sit with the material.”

An example was shared: “In the original arc of She-Hulk, a flashback of star Tatiana Maslany’s transformation into her Hulk character didn’t take place until Episode 8, the penultimate episode. But after Marvel’s brain trust watched footage, it realized the scene needed to happen in the pilot episode so that audiences could see more of the character’s backstory early. That meant that the VFX team was tasked with fixing the mess in postproduction.”

It was also revealed that a single episode of She-Hulk cost $25 million to produce, which is insane! The report points out that budget “dwarf’s the budget of a final-season episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones.”

The report goes on to reveal that many final effects for shows like She-Hulk and WandaVision were added after they made their streaming debuts. Because of that VFX artists were scrambling to get their work done.

Marvel Studios has been a complete mess behind the scenes! Thankfully, Marvel is now making some changes that should help things run a bit smoother for them as they move forward with developing their projects. Hopefully, it improves the quality of storytelling as well.
