Daredevil's Original Role and Ending in Marvel's ECHO Reportedly Revealed

As you know, Marvel’s Echo went through a lot of changes before it debuted on Disney+, and Daredevil originally played a bigger role in the series. In the series, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil only shows up in the first episode for a fight scene with Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox).

Daredevil was also used a lot in the marketing for the series, but his screen time only ended up being about 90 seconds long. The character originally had a bigger role in the series and now some rumored details have emerged on his initial involvement. Marvel scooper @CanWeGetToast has shared these details. Some of them are a bit choppy, but it’s not hard to fit in the puzzle pieces.

In an earlier version of the series, Matt Murdock would have been Maya’s contact in New York City keeping her up to date. In Episode 2, she would’ve reached out to Matt to see if anyone in New York had picked up on the fact she'd bombed one of The Kingpin's armories. He tells her that she only has a couple of days before his men show up.

In Episode 5, Maya asks Matt about who was going to make a play for Wilson Fisk's territory, and in the finale, which was apparently the scrapped sixth episode, Maya was going to text Daredevil and tell him to "do it," meaning he should round up his friends in New York City to take down The Kingin's empire.

This would’ve led to a big flashback reveal where Matt ends up bailing out Maya out after she shoots Fisk in the face. The original plan would have seen Maya arrested after that rather than escape and she would have ended up striking a deal with the FBI to provide them with the information they need to take down Fisk once and for all.

Echo was originally supposed to end with Maya returning to New York to deal with some unfinished business and it set up a role for her in Daredevil: Born Again

I’m not sure if any of that’s true, but there’s an interesting story there. Echo certainly changed a lot! I liked how the series turned out. Kevin Feige obviously felt this wasn’t working and decided that cutting Daredevil and simplifying the story was the right thing to do.

What do you think about these rumored details? Did you like Echo? Would you have liked to see more Daredevil?
