BARBIE Becomes Warner Bros. Biggest Movie Ever Worldwide with $1.34 Billion

Barbie did it! The uber-popular film has become Warner Bros.’ biggest movie of all time worldwide with a total of $1.34 billion dollars! I knew that Barbie was going to be a big hit, but I did not expect the film to hit this level of box office madness! People just seem to love and enjoy watching this movie. There’s something about it that is just resonating with audiences, and you can bet your ass the studio wants to get a sequel in the works as soon as possible in hopes that they will be able to recreate the magic of this first film.

Director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie delivered a unique and fun story, and while there are a lot of people out there ranting and raving about the movie, I honestly believe that it has only been making people want to see the movie.

Gerwig previously talked about this historic comedy blockbuster saying that it has been “So amazing. I wanted to make something anarchic and wild and funny and cathartic. The idea that it’s actually being received that way, it’s sort of extraordinary.”

As for what the director is thinking about for the sequel, it’s something she says she hasn’t started thinking about. She said: “At this moment, it’s all I’ve got. I feel like that at the end of every movie, like I’ll never have another idea and everything I’ve ever wanted to do, I did. I wouldn’t want to squash anybody else’s dream but for me, at this moment, I’m at totally zero.”

Mattel is definitely thinking about a sequel, and CEO Ynon Kreiz said the “ambition is to create film franchises. At the outset, we’re not saying, ‘Okay, let’s think already about movie two and three.’ Let’s get the first one right and make that a success. And if you do that, opportunities open up very quickly, once you establish the first movie as a successful representation of a franchise on the big screen. Successful movies lend themselves to more movies. Our ambition is to create film franchises.”

Well, now that they’ve accomplished what they set out to do, the road is paved and they can proceed with their grand master plan of making more movies and creating franchises.
