A New Joker Is Rumored to Be Introduced in Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN Trilogy

While we all wait to see Matt Reeves’ version of the Dark Knight in WB and DC’s The Batman, a new rumor has surfaced that fans will be interested in learning about. According to The Direct, a new version of The Joker will be introduced at some point in the planned trilogy.

According to the sites contributing insider Daniel Richtman, “Matt Reeves is planning to introduce a new Joker into his Batman trilogy. Reeves is planning for the Joker to appear in the second and third movies as one of the films' multiple villains. This new Joker will be referenced in 2021's The Batman, and casting for the role has not yet begun.”

This shouldn’t really come as a surprise. After all, The Joker is Batman’s main villain, and with a trilogy of films that are going to be filled with Batman villains, it only makes sense to bring The Joker into the mix as well. This movie is going to unlike any Batman film we’ve seen before, and fans are excited about it!

Again, this will be a new version of The Joker, so don’t expect Joaquin Pheonix or Jared Leto’s version of the villain in the movie. I know some fans were hoping for a crossover, but that’s not gonna happen.

As far as the villains that we see in this first film, Collin Ferrell is playing The Penguin, Paul Dano is playing The Riddler, Zoë Kravitz (Big Little Lies) is Catwoman, and John Turturro (The Night Of) is Carmine Falcone. There may be some other surprises.

Robert Pattinson is leading the cast in the role of Batman and is also joined by Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as Commissioner James Gordon, Andy Serkis (Black Panther) as Alfred Pennyworth, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, and Peter Sarsgaard (Green Lantern) as Gil Colson.

The Batman will be a noir-style film that will lean into Batman in his detective mode. The director said that it’s going to tell a deep and psychological story and confirmed that the movie will not be an origin story. However, it will acknowledge his origin and how it’s still something that he’s “majorly struggling” with. When previously talking about the film, Reeves said:

“It's very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It's told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it's going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films. The comics have a history of that.”

The Batman is now scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2021.
